Then when I went back to the waiting room, the dental hygienist & desk people tried to schedule me for two future appointments before my next cleaning "to fix 9 items" that were only described at "items". Are they cavities? What are the items? I have zero tooth pain. Why didn't Dr. Hull tell me any of this? What do I need these 'items' for? They couldn't give me an answer.
I was tempted to give 2 stars instead of 1 because my cleaning was extremely thorough (90 minutes!), and everyone was very cordial, well-spoken, and well-mannered. But I'm an adult, and I expected to be a treated like one by a group of professionals.
What does that mean?
It is my personal interpretation that Dr. Hull takes a very 'active' approach to teeth maintenance, preferring to schedule procedures and selling hardware in situations in which simply being cautious would have sufficed. From an insurance standpoint, this is terrible for everyone except for Dr. Hull. It drives up everyone's costs.
I enjoyed a beautiful window-front view of the well-kept lawn and outdoors while my wisdom teeth were skillfully extracted. All the while upbeat pop music provided a soft ambience. The staff are polite and intelligent; they are adept at their jobs. I couldn’t ask for a better experience.
My wife loves Dr. Hull, and after half a decade of "suggesting", she convinced me to go. I had previously refused because of a $3,000 billing incident in which she was assured a certain procedure would be covered by insurance (It was not).
As always, awesome experience at Dr. Hulls. I was in the area early so arrived and asked if it was possible to be seen a little earlier than my scheduled appointment. They were able to get me in and out and repair my chipped tooth very quickly. Such friendly and personable staff. I highly recommend Dr. Hull and his team for the simple, routine procedures as well as any major work that needs to be done. I drive an hour both ways and don't regret a mile!
If I could give more stars I would! The staff was extremely patient centered and knowledgeable. They took the time to get to know me and my health and dental history. When I had questions the doctor took these pics o time to answer them fully. All the staff were courteous and kind! Wonderful first visit and can't wait to go back!
Excellent experience as always. Dr Hull is extremely detailed and makes sure he explains in great detail everything that is going to take place during your visit. The entire staff is very professional, friendly and caring. It is apparent that they all love what they do. 5 stars for Dr Hull and his staff. They make going to the dentist fun.
I asked to speak with Dr. Hull quickly for clarification, repeating what Dr. Hull told me about nothing being necessary. The dental hygienist went to the back to speak with Dr. Hull, and quickly returned without Dr. Hull with this as the only explanation: "Yes there are a few spots to keep an eye on but we don't want to let them go too long."
Dr. Hull came in for less than 3 minutes, checked all my teeth, and said "A few spots to keep an eye on, but everything looks structurally sound and we'll see you next time."
Knowing this was my first appointment, I also stated, up front (twice!): "I used to grind my teeth sleeping as a teenager. It appears to have a stopped, because the size of my teeth have stopped decreasing. I've tried 5+ different bite plates and night guards, and I they are incredibly painful for me. I have no tooth pain as it is, and I have no interest in a night guard. I understand it is a risk I am taking, but I do not want one." I had to fend off 5+ minutes of both the hygienist and dentist trying to sell night guards, including explanations of sample models, etc.
As for my experience: I opened my appointment with the statement: "I had my first child two years ago, and I know I haven't taken care of my teeth since then. My teeth were in good shape before that, so I really don't need a lecture. I understand what I haven't been doing." Then I spent my entire appointment being lectured on what I had been doing wrong. Literally, the entire appointment being spoken to like a 14 year old. Unbelievably patronizing, considering I specifically requested this not to occur.
I'll find a new dentist.
